Integrity, A Lost GEM

There was a time in business transactions, not long ago. There was a time when a business owner could give a handshake and that handshake meant “ I am going to deliver on the promise that I just made with you” and you can trust me”. In today’s time the art of being trustworthy and honest is few and in between. Entrepreneurs give their word or promise to obtain a sale and afterwards, there is no commitment to follow through with quality customer service or reciprocation of services. As a bona-fide business owner, your first priority is ‘ Your Word”. When you give your word to a client, colleague, friend, or any individual, be honest and reliable to finish what you started in that business relationship. So many times, loose commitments are verbally made and the customer or client is left hanging or waiting for the promise to be delivered. Integrity is trustworthiness, which means that a person should be able to take you at your word and know beyond a shadow of a doubt that your words are true and reliable. The most important discipline any business owner should develop is to not make promises that they don’t plan to keep. When you make a promise that you don’t keep, it blemishes your “INTEGRITY” which is your reputation. So as you build your business and plan to be in business for the duration, take time to watch your words carefully and only speak the things that you know that you can deliver on and intend to make happen. The Discipline of Integrity must be at the core of your business; however, it starts with you as a business owner understanding that your words will decide the worth of your business. If your words are worthless then the public will view your business as worthless as well. Worthless words stop business owners from fostering positive relationships, building empires, and leaving wholesome legacies in business. Be sure to examine your integrity language, make the necessary improvements, and daily walk in Integrity in your business! Don’t make promises you don’t intend to keep!
